Asia
Football, basketball, and ping pong are the main sports in Asia. Prior to the 1990s, sport in China, as in some other countries, was completely government-funded. Some top athletes had quit at the height of their careers because they were uncertain about life post retirement. The situation began to change in 1994 when Chinese football became the first sport to take the professionalization road and in its wake similar reforms were carried out in basketball, volleyball, ping pong and weiqi .
Sports in India include cricket, chess, badminton, field hockey, tennis, association football and golf. Field Hockey is the official national sport in India, and the country has eight olympic gold medals in field hockey, though cricket is the most popular. Other popular sports include football, tennis, volleyball, and badminton.
Sports in Japan are a significant part of Japanese culture. Both traditional sports such as sumo and martial arts, and Western imports like baseball and association football, are popular with both participants and spectators.
China
With the legacy of the 2008 Summer Olympics, China has become a tourist hot spot. Tours to Beijing and Shanghai are both possible. The team sports of football and hockey are played at junior level.
India
India, besides being a land of history, culture, arts and heritage, is also the land of sports. India has excelled in various sports, especially in cricket, hockey, tennis and archery etc.
