As well as their national games of American football, baseball and basketball, the USA offer a wide selection of traditional sports, such football, rugby and cricket.

Contrary to popular belief in the UK, Americans take part in many organised team sports such as hockey and soccer - especially at junior levels. The strongest areas for rugby union are in the north-east regions around New York and New England; the Mid-West around Chicago and Milwaukee, and California. Cricket is on the increase in New York, Florida and California with tennis and athletics widely available in schools.
